(Feb. 12, 2025): SLF Executive Director Kimberly Hermann joined a panel of experts to discuss whether DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives are on their way out after years of being prioritized in schools, government programs, businesses, and more. DEI programs often place equity over equality, promoting equal outcomes that discriminate against individuals rather than providing equal opportunities to all Americans. SLF has been on the frontlines of the courtroom battle to stop race-based equity programs, from mandatory segregation during teacher trainings, forced adherence to so-called “anti-racism,” and the exclusion of farmers from federal relief simply because they were white men.
As Hermann explained, since SLF first brought these lawsuits four years ago, federal courts have reinforced what the Constitution and civil rights laws already said: the government cannot treat people differently based on skin color. “What [the government] had forgotten is that our Constitution is colorblind…When we sued over these programs in court, we won. We won because our Constitution and civil rights laws are on our side.”
Thanks to these lawsuits, there is now strong precedent that returns American to a colorblind country built on equality. Together with President Trump’s Executive Order Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity, this shows that there are “more allies in the fight” against DEI.
