Watch: SLF’s Kimberly Hermann joins Heritage Foundation panel on Title IX

(June 20, 2024): Southeastern Legal Foundation (SLF) Executive Director Kimberly Hermann joined a panel of experts to break down the Biden-Harris Administration’s rewrite of Title IX, a congressional law that has protected men and women in colleges and K-12 schools for 50 years by ensuring equality on the basis of sex. The panel gathered to discuss how the Department of Education’s new rule will impact families and students across the country and how Americans can fight back against it.

SLF explained that the new rule violates the First Amendment because it both compels speech and chills speech. For example, if a child refuses to identify someone by their incorrect pronouns but instead wishes to use their biological pronouns, the child could now be brought up on Title IX charges because the Biden-Harris Administration has redefined “sex” under the law to include gender identity. Likewise, students may be deterred from speaking up in defense of their safety in bathrooms or locker rooms if they know that they could be punished for discriminating against others based on gender identity.

SLF encouraged participants to stay informed, educate themselves about their rights, and educate others about the impact this new rule will have.
