[December 18, 2024] Today, Southeastern Legal Foundation (SLF) and Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF) filed an amicus brief in support of Parents Defending Education’s continued fight to protect free speech at the Olentangy School District in Ohio. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals will re-hear Parents Defending Education’s case to protect students and teachers in this school district. SLF is proud to stand beside them in support and ensure that the Constitution is protected in all areas.
This case is a textbook example of an attempt to control the views of people. By forcing students and administrators to self-censor or use pronouns they disagree with, the school district is fundamentally overwriting the right to free speech protected by the First Amendment.
Director of Legal Initiatives Cece O’Leary states, “While we are disappointed in the majority opinion in this case, we are pleased this case will now be heard by all judges in the Sixth Circuit. We are confident that the proper decision will be made and that the First Amendment rights of all people will be protected. That is why we are so proud to lend our support through the filing of this amicus brief and continue to stand beside Parents Defending Education to ensure they win their case.”
