Southeastern Legal Foundation (SLF) is supporting pro-life pregnancy centers whose free speech rights are under attack. Together with 41 other organizations, SLF urges the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in an amicus brief to rein in the New York Attorney General, who is abusing her power to silence the pregnancy centers’ speech.
The crisis pregnancy centers advise women about how to reverse the effects of the abortion pill through progesterone therapy. The New York AG, Letitia James, is targeting those centers with lawsuits, claiming that the centers are spreading “false and misleading” information about the therapy so that they cannot continue engaging in this speech.

In doing so, SLF and amici argue, James is using “intimidation tactics to chill pro-life speech” in violation of their First Amendment rights. James has a record of “weaponizing” her legal power to attack her political enemies, including President Trump, and “show[s] specific antipathy for crisis pregnancy centers, which she has called ‘fake clinics.’”
The clinics–private businesses–have every right to speak openly about progesterone therapy. While James may not agree with their speech, she does not have the authority to silence them.
