(Nov. 18, 2025): Just the News reports on Southeastern Legal Foundation’s (SLF) recent request for a federal investigation into Springfield, Missouri Public Schools. The district, which has notoriously discriminated and caused racial division through policies and practices led by its Office of Equity and Inclusion, has since rebranded to the “Office of Access and Opportunity” without actually ceasing to discriminate.
SPS has stereotyped and stigmatized based on skin color for years now. For example, following the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, the district hosted a training in which it told staff that they had to be “actively anti-racist” because it equated “white silence” with white supremacy. These sorts of trainings and policies have continued to the present day, despite SLF filing a lawsuit against the district in 2021.
SLF submitted a civil rights complaint to the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights and Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. SLF President Kim Hermann states, “It is highly disappointing that we are continuing to see school districts in this country that are actively trying to imbue racial division within its staff, with the goal of then having it trickle down to its students. Not only is this wrong, but it is outwardly anti-American, going against the hard work done in the past to achieve a colorblind society where everyone is seen as equal. The sort of teaching that SPS continues to push breeds nothing but a regressive attitude towards race that is best left in the past.”
