Watch: SLF Warns Against Colorado Bill That Will Strip Parental Rights

(April 9, 2025): SLF Executive Director Kimberly Hermann joined NTD News to explain how a new bill being considered in Colorado is threatening to completely erode parental rights and the nuclear family. House Bill 1312 states that if a parent refuses to affirm a child’s so-called gender identity, such as failing to call the child by a new name or biologically incorrect pronouns, that parent can be found guilty of child abuse and lose custody of their child.

“What we’re talking about here is the biggest assault on parental rights we have seen in this country,” Hermann warns. She explains that if a parent refuses to let their young boy wear a dress, and the boy tells his teacher, the teacher could report the parent to police. This is all part of the left’s efforts to destroy the nuclear family.

Worse, the Democratic majority did not even allow debate to occur on the House floor and instead sent the bill directly to a vote, refusing to give parents an opportunity to be heard and to voice their opposition to the egregious measure. The measure passed the preliminary vote in the House and must now pass a final vote before moving on to the state Senate.

Hermann states that there will be “many lawsuits” challenging this legislation if it goes into effect, and she is hopeful that the United States Supreme Court will take up the issue “sooner rather than later.”
