(Sept. 8, 2026): In an op-ed for the Daily Signal, Southeastern Legal Foundation’s (SLF’s) Kimberly Hermann applauds the Trump administration for cracking down on extremism in woke school districts across America. Hermann explains, “The constitutional rights of girls and parents don’t end when they walk into school. The ideologies that want to ‘protect trans rights’ are now trampling innocent children who want to feel safe when they use the bathroom or change clothes at school.”

Thankfully, the Department of Education and Department of Justice are taking action. The DOJ recently sued a Kansas school district for encouraging secret gender transitions while keeping parents totally in the dark, violating a number of federal laws. And the administration is also intervening in states like Massachusetts, where a biological male recently pushed open a bathroom stall while a 9-year-old girl was in there.

SLF is also taking action. In one recent Title IX case, SLF filed a complaint with the Department of Education after a special-needs female student had to choose between sharing the girls’ bathroom with a biological boy or not using it at all. Hermann writes, “This is unacceptable. This is illegal.” Congress must update its laws to protect parents’ and children’s rights to the farthest extent possible, and to force this change, parents must keep filing complaints with the Department of Education and Department of Justice so that they know what schools are doing behind parents’ backs.

“We need more voices demanding protection for our basic freedoms from government control and manipulation or we risk losing them altogether,” Hermann warns.
