Southeastern Legal Foundation joins two other leading public interest law firms to bring Title IX resource guide and host national webinar to educators

ATLANTA, GA– Today, Southeastern Legal Foundation (SLF) joins the Defense of Freedom Institute for Policy Studies (DFI) and the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) to release a first-of-its kind resource guide aimed at giving both new and old school board members the resources they need to fight back against Biden’s new Title IX regulations. This guide, titled “Protecting Title IX: A Resource Guide for School Boards,” will be accompanied by a national webinar on November 20, 2024, at 1 p.m. ET. These two resources will follow SLF’s previous release of a Title IX guidebook for parents and the guidebook SLF created alongside Leadership Institute and Riley Gaines. All three can be found here.

The Biden administration’s Title IX regulations have completely reversed the law’s protection of equal opportunities for women and girls in education in favor of “gender identity.” This leads to challenges in interpretation and many with fear of how women and girls will continue to be prioritized.

This webinar and resource guide brought together by three premier law firms brings information on the new Title IX regulations and will also address pending court cases challenging the regulations and the future of these Title IX changes.

The guide covers vital aspects of the new rule, including the following:

  • The implications of the expanded definition of “sex” to include “gender identity.”
  • The new, lower standard for harassment and its threats to free speech.
  • Parental rights and family engagement.
  • The rule’s assault on due process for students and school employees.

Webinar Description: Join this national webinar for school board members, school district officials, education policymakers, and stakeholders hosted by the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL), the Defense of Freedom Institute for Policy Studies (DFI), and Southeastern Legal Foundation (SLF). Attorneys from each organization will cover the significant changes under the new Title IX rule and present a brand new free public resource for school board members in any state. This is a must-attend event for anyone who wants to stay informed on the latest Title IX developments.

Southeastern Legal Foundation Executive Director Kim Hermann said, “We are proud to lend our voice beside two amazing organizations, Defense of Freedom Institute (DFI) and Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL), to bring this Title IX resource to school board members. As SLF continues to fight alongside its clients Moms for Liberty and Young America’s Foundation to stop Biden’s Title IX immediately in courts, we have come together through webinars and resources like this so people around the country have the resources they need to fight back against these new regulations. We can only truly save and restore Title IX if all people know their rights and are well-informed about the Title IX re-write and we are glad to be able to play a part of this effort both in and out of the courtroom.”

WILL Education Counsel Cory Brewer stated, “School board members need complete and accurate information—not intimidation. Our Title IX Resource Guide provides an in-depth analysis with essential legal citations to help both new and experienced board members make informed decisions as they adopt policies for their communities. It also explains how the recent changes to Title IX conflict with its original purpose of protecting women and girls from discrimination. This guide will prove to be an invaluable resource nationwide.”

DFI’s Senior Counsel Paul Zimmerman said, “While the fight continues in the courts to overturn the Biden administration’s unlawful regulatory affront to Title IX, this resource offers the information school district officials and administrators need to know about what this radical Title IX rewrite means for their schools. DFI and our allies, like the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty and the Southeastern Legal Foundation, will continue fighting for every school’s ability to protect the privacy and safety of its students, as well as respect constitutional rights to free speech and due process, by combating this harmful rule.”
