Watch: SLF’s Kimberly Hermann attends President Trump’s executive order signing

(Feb. 6, 2025): SLF Executive Director Kimberly Hermann joins One America News to describe her experience at the White House when President Trump signed an executive order saving Title IX and protecting women’s sports. In the order, President Trump declared that under Title IX, schools cannot deny women an equal opportunity to participate in sports, and that it is the federal government’s policy to rescind funding from any school that allows men to participate in women’s sports, gives men access to women’s private spaces such as locker rooms, or silences women who advocate for their safety. President Trump is righting President Biden’s wrongs as the Biden Department of Education tried to undermine congressional authority by re-writing Title IX and changing the definition of “sex” to mean “gender identity.” Several states and organizations–including Southeastern Legal Foundation representing Moms for Liberty and Young America’s Foundation–sued the Biden Administration over the unconstitutional re-write.

Breaking down the historical move by President Trump, Hermann explains what the executive order will do for girls: “It’s going to protect them on the field and on the courts…it’s going to protect their voices…and it protects their privacy and physical safety[.]”

But the fight is not over. Executive agencies must implement the order and Congress must work to pass new laws clarifying that the original intent of Title IX was to protect biological women. It will likely also take additional lawsuits against states and local school districts who will attempt to resist this move.
